Image Weathering

This project explores the relationship between digital images and material temporality. Inspired by the idea that images, like ancient artifacts, cannot escape the erosion of time, I aimed to visualize this process by simulating how an image “melts” under temporal influence.

Using TouchDesigner, I performed pixel-level manipulations on a vivid, high-resolution photograph, intentionally distorting its pixel arrangements to simulate a melting and weathering effect. The visual degradation reflects how time transforms images as physical objects—subtly echoing decay, erosion, and memory loss.

The processed images were printed on layers of transparent acrylic panels and displayed sequentially, creating a spatial, semi-sculptural form. The layering reveals a progression of transformation, inviting viewers to move around the piece and observe how the image dissolves into abstraction—like memory fading through time.
